fuellib.correlate.mixture.derived_cetane_number

fuellib.correlate.mixture.derived_cetane_number(fuel, Yi=None, *, T_ref=Quantity(298.15, 'kelvin'))

Calculate the derived cetane number (DCN) of the fuel mixture.

Combines each component’s derived cetane number with a linear, liquid volume fraction mixing rule. Volume fractions are derived from mass fractions using component liquid densities at T_ref.

Parameters:
  • fuel (Fuel) – Fuel object.

  • Yi (Quantity[ndarray[tuple[int]]] | None) – Mass fractions of each compound in the mixture. Defaults to fuel.Y_0 (initial mass fractions).

  • T_ref (Quantity[float]) – Reference temperature for liquid densities. Required for converting mass fractions to volume fractions.

Returns:

Derived cetane number of the mixture.

Raises:

ValueError – If derived cetane number is unavailable for any component.

Return type:

Quantity[float]
